How to maintain your tile and grout after its been professionally cleaned or installed.
So you had your tile and grout recently cleaned. You need to know how to take care of it.
We usually go over this before we leave our clients home or business.
If you haven't already done so apply a sealer to the grout. It does make cleaning easier. If unsure of this process have a professional do this for you.
First you want to vacuum the tile and grout. Vacuuming not only removes the dirt off the tile but removes it from the grout line. Set your vacuum on hard surface if you have that option. Sweeping the tile and grout should be avoided as you are sweeping the dirt into the grout line. If you do sweep it be sure to sweep the grout lines good.
Use a clean mop and bucket. Purchase a neutral floor cleaner such as Zep Neutral Floor Cleaner from a janitorial supply store or home center. Follow the label for mixing the cleaner usually 2-4 ounces per gallon. Microfiber pads are good just make sure they have deep ridges to hit the grout lines.
(Note: Always keep the water clean in the bucket. When it starts to get dingy change the water and mop head. You don't want to apply dirty water to your floor.)
Another option to maintain your floor is the use of a Norwex pad that only uses water. We highly recommend these. You don't need a neutral cleaner.
Things to avoid using:
1) Bleach PH 11-13. High PH and can cause damage to the tile and grout. It can actually change the color of the grout and damage it as well. Avoid this product.
2) Vinegar PH 2-3. Which is pretty low and can cause damage to the floor. Use caution.
3) Any household products use caution and follow the directions on the label.
